Markus Altenburger – Chardonnay Ried Jungenberg 2018

by Simon J Woolf

Simon J Woolf 31/08/2020

Markus Altenburger - Chardonnay Ried Jungenberg 2018
Producer: Markus Altenburger
Wine name: Chardonnay Ried Jungenberg
year: 2018
Classification: Leithaberg DAC
variety: Chardonnay
country: Austria
region: Burgenland
style: White
certification: Organic
ABV: 12.5
event: Grafenegg silent tasting 2020

One of the more elegant wines I’ve tasted from Markus so far, this leads with an entrancing honey, sage and heather aroma – and a hint of botrytis. The texture is quite leesy and opulent, but tight mineral and citrus notes reign it in beautifully.
Already very open and expressive, with ripe pear, crushed rocks and Mediterranean herbs, tailing off into a flinty, persistent finish. An outstanding wine.
