Renner – Heideboden Renner 2016

by Simon J Woolf

Simon J Woolf 17/04/2020

Renner - Heideboden Renner 2016
Producer: Renner
Wine name: Heideboden Renner
year: 2016
Varieties: Merlot, Sankt Laurent
region: Burgenland
style: Red
certification: Organic
ABV: 14.0

Even though it was produced in the year that the sistas officially took over the winery from their parents, this blend feels a bit like a step back in time. It’s the kind of red cuvée that was very popular in Burgenland in the 1990s or the early 2000s.

It’s big, ripe and chocolately, lacking the lightness of touch or the freshness that I love in so many of the Rennersistas labels.

Aged in large-format oak barrels, it nonetheless feels a little marked by the wood.
