Ronco Severo – Merlot Riserva 2016

by Simon J Woolf

Simon J Woolf 11/11/2020

Ronco Severo - Merlot Riserva 2016
Producer: Ronco Severo
Wine name: Merlot Riserva
year: 2016
variety: Merlot
country: Italy
region: Friuli
style: Red
ABV: 15.0
event:

Very typical slightly overripe nose, plummy and slightly bloody with some sous-bois and herbs. Still rather marked by the oak, with a toasty vanilla character. Lovely acidity and bright plum and blackberry fruit. Some vanilla and candied fruit notes on the finish.
Very refined and regal structure.

The high alcohol is gracefully handled, so even though this isn’t my style, I’m struggling to fault it.

Still extremely youthful, and clamouring for a bit more bottle age.
