Schloss Gobelsburg – Riesling Ried Heiligenstein 2018

by Simon J Woolf

Simon J Woolf 02/09/2020

Schloss Gobelsburg - Riesling Ried Heiligenstein 2018
Producer: Schloss Gobelsburg
Wine name: Riesling Ried Heiligenstein
year: 2018
Classification: Kamptal DAC
variety: Riesling
country: Austria
region: Kamptal
style: White
ABV: 13.5
event: ÖTW Erste Lage Preview tasting 2020

Elegant and perfectly balanced, there are crushed rocks, honeysuckle and lemon zest aplenty here. With a touch more ripeness than the 2019 Heiligensteins, this has a charming sweet character on the palate, before gliding into a long and ethereal finish. Patience required for this to show everything it’s got to give.

Characterful aromas of crushed rocks, fresh herbs and the merest hint of kerosene. Fairly broad-shouldered, with a creamy core that lasts and lasts on the finish. As always with Gobelsburg, very well judged and restrained.
