I find it hard to take a wine that’s called “Excalibur” seriously. And here, Excalibur’s sword seems a little blunted.
From an age when Carnuntum winemakers thought they had to plant Bordeaux varieties to sell premium wines, it feels dated. The nose is slightly stale, with new oak quite evident. All is not lost on the palate – there is fruit and acidity – however it feels flabby and overawed by extraction and oak.
