  • Wieninger – Wiener Gemischter Satz Ried Rosengartel 2018

    Simon J Woolf

Something like a prototype Gemischter Satz, with the glorious depth and body that this field blend achieves so well. There are elements of ripe citrus, slate, apple and lime, but it’s about how it all comes together in one mouth-filling, creamy drop.

  • Christ – Wiener Gemischter Satz – Ried Wiesthalen 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Light botrytis character on the nose, quite a bit of Riesling in the blend? Lovely ripe fruit, quite spicy and lifted. Attractive texture, not too fat but plenty of depth and a hint of sweetness on the finish.

  • Wieninger – Gemischter Satz Nussberg Ried Ulm 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Lacks a bit of freshness on the nose, more herbal or even tea-like. But the palate has lemon zest, sharon fruit and also some herbal tinges. Bone dry and very salty on the finish. This is a very typical Wieninger style – tight and verging on the austere, but with terrific character.

  • Wieninger – Ried Rosengartel Gemischter Satz 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Hint of baked goods on the nose, quite broad fruit with dancing citrus acidity and a fine, slaty finish. Nervous and highly strung, despite the alcohol, really needs more time to flesh out a bit but great potential.

  • Mayer am Pfarrplatz – Ried Preussen Gemischter Satz 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Ripe stone fruits on the nose, very “come hither”. Peach, pear and some guava. Soft textured and easygoing, but hiding a lovely mineral streak that carries the finish. The alcohol is a little more evident on the finish than I’d like but this is nitpicking.

  • Rotes Haus – Ried Preussen Gemischter Satz 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Rich, lifted fruit, baked apple, honey and candied peel. Beautiful acids that carry the ripe fruit. Some exotic, spicy notes, preserved plum. Very harmonious, on the opulent side but the balance is great. And this is already singing.

  • Rotes Haus – Ried Langteufel Gemischter Satz 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Rich and salty on the palate, the alcohol is beautifully handled, yes this is a big wine but the balance is wonderful – only a slight sensation of heat on the finish. The nose is a bit closed right now, some pear and quince notes. Lovely lifted acids keep things lively and fresh. Scared of

  • Cobenzl – Ried Steinberg Gemischter Satz 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Guava & kiwi, plus some nice aromatics on the nose (some aromatic varieties in the vineyard no doubt), hint of lychee and rambutan, lowish acids but gets away with it. More exotic fruit notes than usual in a typical Gemischter Satz, but no lack of interest.

  • Edlmoser – Ried Himmel Gemischter Satz 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Beautiful fruit, exotic guava notes, quite broad and expressive, with citrus freshness (ever so slight botrytis influence?). Very ripe, but juicy and full in the mouth with balance too. Really enjoyable and already drinking very well.

  • Edlmoser – Ried Sätzen Gemischter Satz 2017

    Simon J Woolf

Spicy, extremely complex palate, although with some oak influence that slightly clouds the fruit. Nose isn’t the most expressive, a little sweaty, some plum & other stone fruit, but the palate is beautiful and this is a wine that can age and will improve easily over the next 5 years. Will be great when all
